Ida Mae Rellis was born in Montgomery, Alabama on February 22, 1929 to Robert and Annie Taylor who moved to Benton Harbor, MI in 1930, where Ida lived until her passing. She took her independence from this earth on July 4, 2023.
Ida was the oldest of ten children. Ida leaves behind five sisters, Bernice (Arthur) Cain of Detroit MI, Delores Singleton of Grand Rapids MI, Zenovia Coates, Lorraine Watson and Rita ((Ja’yce) Taylor-Williams of Benton Harbor MI, one daughter, Brenda Patterson, of Tampa Fl, two grandchildren, Horace Driskell, of Tampa FL, and LeAnthony McCoy of Benton Harbor MI and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great grandchildren, Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church family and friends.
Ida was predeceased by her husband Fred Rellis, son Gregory Rellis, parents Annie and Robert Taylor, stepmother, Edith Taylor, siblings, Robert Taylor Jr, Allen Taylor, Abbott Taylor and Laura Franklin.
Ida graduated BHHS in 1947, obtained her cosmetology license in 1953 and practiced until her health prevented. She married Fred Rellis on Valentines’ Day, February 14, 1960. Ida was well known as “Mother Ida” and nurtured her younger siblings as well as their children. Ida had a warm heart for all children and shared her love with them way beyond their childhood years. Her love and comfort will surely be missed.
