New Bishop Appointed For Southwest Michigan Catholics

Catholics in southwest Michigan have a new Bishop. Pope Francis has named Monsignor Edward Lohse as the fifth Bishop for the Catholic Diocese of Kalamazoo. Bishop Paul Bradley tendered his resignation on October 18, 2020 when he turned 75 as required by Catholic Church law, and he will continue to serve as Apostolic Administrator until Bishop-elect Lohse is ordained in July. Throughout his 34 years as a priest, Bishop-elect Lohse has served in a number of pastoral, educational and diocesan assignments both for the Diocese of Erie as well as the Vatican. He is currently the Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia for the Diocese of Erie. The Diocese of Kalamazoo is made up of Allegan, Barry, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Berrien, Cass, St. Joseph and Branch counties.
