Public Comment Rules Changed At South Haven City Council Meetings

Public comment at South Haven City Council meetings will be changing. The council last night approved changes to the rules for public comment, moving it to the start and toward the end of meetings and not on every agenda item. City Manager Kate Hosier explained to the council how different the city has been.

“We are, far and away, pretty unusual for allowing public comment on every item. Most local governments take public comment once or twice during an agenda unless there is a public hearing on something.”

The council approved giving people five minutes of comment, up from the recommended three minutes. Several people spoke against the change.
