Congressman Bill Huizenga says a deal has been reached among House Republicans to raise the debt ceiling while reducing federal spending. He tells us the deal announced by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy this week would take back unspent COVID money and then apply it to the national debt. That’s not all.
“We’re also going to limit future spending to 1% growth,” Huizenga said. “So, there will be growth, but it’s going to be limited.”
The plan would also seek to boost domestic energy production. What if President Biden refuses to consider it?
“He’s the one that said we can’t default. That would seem pretty foolish.”
That resulted in a spending deal that also raised the debt ceiling. Huizenga says the House plan would limit the size of government and restore the country’s economic engine. He expects a vote in the House on the plan next week.
