Governor Gretchen Whitmer has released a video recapping what she believes are her biggest accomplishments in the first 100 days of her new term. She says recent tax changes were among the biggest.
“We rolled back the retirement tax on our seniors, which will save 500,000 households an average of $1,000 a year,” Whitmer said. “Folks who worked hard their whole lives – police, firefighters, teachers, auto workers- your friends and neighbors deserve to keep more of what they earned over a lifetime of hard work.”
Whitmer also says the Working Families Tax Credit has been quintupled. However, not everyone views the last 100 days favorably. State Senator Aric Nesbitt says it’s been a blitzkrieg of partisanship. He tells us Republicans will continue seeking tax relief for all.
“Michigan Democrats failed to provide immediate relief to Michigan seniors,” Nesbitt said. “Nothing in this current tax year, nothing in these special budget bills. Just a four year implementation for some relief for some seniors.”
Whitmer touted the elimination of the pension tax as an accomplishment, along with coming gun safety legislation. Nesbitt says all indications are the Democratic-controlled Legislature will continue cramming through its own agenda.
