Benton Harbor Mayor Pro Tem Duane Seats is urging fellow city commissioners to take a closer look at operations at Dial A Ride. At a Monday meeting, commissioners were considering the resignation of Dorothy Parker from the Twin Cities Area Transportation Authority, which governs Dial A Ride. That’s after the resignation last month of Dial A Ride Director Angel Crayton and a contentious meeting. Speaking at a Monday meeting, Seats said Parker’s resignation shouldn’t be accepted without commissioners looking into the matter.
“Nobody wants to sit on a board where they’re being humiliated, talked ridiculous to, and have no backup or anybody to step up with them to do anything,” Seats said. “This thing has been chaotic for a long time.”
Former Dial A Ride Director Crayton resigned following a seven day suspension over alleged unprofessional behavior. Mayor Marcus Muhammad said Parker’s resignation from the board was due to multiple reasons, noting her position was voluntary and she could resign if she so chose. Still Seats said commissioners should consider whether they need to step in and address issues at Dial A Ride.
