Benton Harbor City Commissioners have signed off on a resurfacing project planned for Paw Paw Avenue from East Main Street to north of Waukonda Avenue. At a Monday meeting, Mayor Marcus Muhammad read from the resolution noting that area needs work that includes drainage improvements to allow access to businesses.

“The existing surface of Paw Paw is in poor condition,” Muhammad said. “Continued access by businesses in the city to the transportation network is of utmost importance to their continued operations.”

The work will include drainage improvements, curb and gutter replacement, and ADA sidewalk ramp upgrades at intersections. The total cost of the construction is $430,000 with $346,000 coming in a grant from the Michigan Department of Transportation. The city’s share of the work is $86,000.
