A donation of more than $1 million has made some major improvements to athletic facilities possible at Grace Lutheran School in Royalton Township. Principal Jonathan Beilke tells us he reached out to Bob Kohn about needs in the gym and soccer field. They started looking at the facilities and Kohn offered to help get the gym up to date with new electric basketball hoops and more.

“We got new bleachers that are all electric now too,” Beilke said. “Before, that was a manual system. They’re new bleachers that are electric, pushbutton. It makes it a lot easier for our athletic director to set up the facilities when we have games and things like that.”

They also got new locker rooms, a new sound system, and updated scoreboards. Kohn also paid for synthetic turf at the soccer field. Beilke says he’s grateful.

“To be honest , it’s a little surreal. I’ve taught in a number of different WELS Schools. We have about 300 of them throughout the United States, and I’ve been privileged to teach in a number of them and the facilities that we have here are something that I thought we’d never be able to have.”

Beilke says the improvements came in at around $1.2 million. Some finishing touches are still waiting to be done, but for the most part, the new gym and field are done and in use by students. He says Bob Kohn is a member of Grace Lutheran Church and big supporter of the school.
