The Watervliet Fire Department has provided an update on Monday’s mobile home fire that displaced a family of six.

In an earlier story, Watervliet resident and fire victim Amber Meyers told WSJM the fire department led her to believe the fire was caused by an electrical outlet in her sons’ room. Watervliet fire chief Bill Whitney said Wednesday that is not the case.

“It was never told to her that the electrical outlet started the fire,” Whitney said. “The fire is still under investigation. There’s a lot of other things at play here. … I know it does not have anything to do with the outlet. There’s other stuff in play, but we just can’t really say much right now.”

The Meyers family – which includes four children ranging from five months old to 14 years old – lost everything in the fire, and are currently living in a motel trying to get their life back together. A GoFundMe  has been set up for those who wish to support the family, and Amber Meyers says to reach out to her directly on Facebook to donate items.
