With New Year’s Eve just a day away, Michigan State Police are taking the time today to remind everyone to drive sober or get pulled over. Michigan State Police First Lieutenant Mike Shaw says New Year’s is a busy holiday for police.
“We’re not trying to ruin anybody’s fun,” Shaw said. “We just want to remind people that there’s absolutely no reason to get behind the wheel impaired. There are way too many options out there for you to use as a ride share or designated driver.”
Shaw tells those celebrating the new year to make plans before heading out. Police will have extra patrols out looking for impaired drivers and speeding drivers. According to MSP, over 44.7% of fatal crashes in 2021 involved alcohol or drugs.
