Suspected Briarwood Apartments killer shot dead by police in Texas

The suspect in a fatal Benton Harbor shooting has been killed by police in Texas.

Michael Delaney, 32, of Benton Harbor, is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Weatherford, Texas, according to a release from the Benton Township Police Department. Delaney was the suspect in a Dec. 17 homicide at Briarwood Apartments in Benton Harbor.

Melissa Noles, 30, of Benton Harbor, was identified as the victim of the Dec. 17 shooting.

Benton Township police said they were contacted Monday by police agencies in Texas about Delaney. At this time, no other information is being released, police said.

According to a news report from Fox 4 in Texas, Weatherford police said their officers fatally shot a suspect the morning of Dec. 24 after the suspect led officers on a chase in a stolen vehicle and shot a gun at officers.

The suspect, who was not identified, crashed the stolen vehicle and began shooting at officers. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

Background

According to a report by Benton Township police following the Briarwood Apartments incident, investigation and evidence determined Noles was shot on the second floor of the apartment building at 1957 Union, dragged down the stairway and walkway, and left in the walkway. Police found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and she was declared dead at the scene.

Delaney may have been in a previous relationship with Noles, according to the police report.
