A criminal who snatched an old lady’s purse has been apprehended, according to police.

Antoine Lamar Dallas, 32, has been arrested and charged with aggravated strong-armed robbery after knocking an 80-year-old Niles woman to the ground and stealing her purse earlier this year. Authorities used a shoe left behind at the scene to identify the suspect, who was arrested in Peru, Ind. and extradited back to Michigan last week.

The robbery resulted in aggravated injuries to the victim, who was walking out of a church parking lot on the south side of Cedar Street, east of Third Street in Niles. The suspect approached the victim on a BMX-style bicycle and grabbed her purse strap, resulting in her being thrown to the ground. The suspect jumped off his bicycle and attempted multiple times to jerk the purse from the victim’s arm. In the process of the assault the suspects shoe fell off and remained at the scene.

A video of the incident was released back in April:

After the assault, the suspect used the victims credit card multiple times, according to police. The shoe was sent to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab in Grand Rapids, and DNA analysis positively identified the suspect as Dallas.

Dallas was arraigned Monday in the 5th District Court Niles, and was released on a $1,000 cash bond.
