Cass County Election Results 2022: Republicans sweep all 8 commission seats

The votes have been counted, and Cass County voters have spoken.

With 100 percent of precincts fully reporting, unofficial results show that Republicans have won all eight county commission seats. The county gained an additional seat for this election after redistricting. Republican James Lawrence won the only tight race in the 2nd District, defeating Democrat Steven Mammel 876-833. R.J. Lee, who defeated longtime Commission Chair Skip Dyes in the primary, won the 8th district. Mary Howie, Ryan Laylin, Joyce Sheteron-Locke and Samuel Barrera each handily defeated their opponents, while Roseann Marchetti and Jeremiah Jones ran unopposed.

Additionally, both the Edwardsburg Public Schools Bonding Proposal and the Milton Township Proposal for Law Enforcement Millage failed to pass. The Milton Township proposal was the closer contest of the two, with 808 votes in favor and 718 votes against. The Edwardsburg schools proposal did not pass for the second time, by a margin of 2,833-2,038.

Heather Beaudoin, Jesse Bement, Teresa Dahlgren and Deborah Deubner were elected to the Cassopolis School Board. Brent Brewer, Stephanie Cooper-Tucker and Rob Ickes were elected to the Dowagiac School Board. Chelsea Wilson and Kevin Harris were elected to the Edwardsburg School Board. Edward S. Asmus, Joe Tone, Justin Ware and Nicki Welburn-Hackenberg were elected to the Marcellus School Board.

Statewide, the people of Cass County were nearly exactly split on Proposal 2, with 9,869 in favor and 9,891 against. To see the complete results, visit electionreporting.com.
