
Sally Lynn Goldberg died Monday September 26, 2022 at her home in Edwardsburg, Michigan with her husband at her side. She was born January 7, 1957 in Washington D.C. Sally was the second daughter of Howard and Bernice Goldberg of Silver Spring, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Sally was diagnosed as type I diabetic at 20 months of age. The first half of her life she was an insulin dependent diabetic. Sally received a kidney and pancreas transplant at the Indiana University hospital in Indianapolis in early 1990. In 2021 her transplanted organs began to fail and she was attempting to get on the transplant list for a new kidney. Unfortunately, she had too many complications to be considered a viable candidate for a second transplant.
Sally graduated in 1978 from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelors degree in Economics with a concentration in Finance. She went on to manage a portfolio of student loans at The Student Loan Marketing Association from 1979 to 1982.
From 1982 through her retirement in 2019 Sally worked in various technology positions at several colleges and universities including Purdue University, Saint Marys College, Carleton College, and the University of Notre Dame. In 1992 Sally met Joseph C. (Curt) Freeland. They married in 1995, and soon moved to South Bend, Indiana.
Sally was a gentle soul, and an animal lover. In her lifetime she had multiple cats, and never walked away from an animal in need. She loved to read mystery books and she enjoyed traveling. Sally leaves behind her husband Curt, his daughter Erin, her sisters Jan (John), Carol (Robert), Lauren (Jim), and her two cats.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date at Sally and Curt’s home in Edwardsburg, Michigan, as well as in the Montgomery County, Maryland area. Burial will take place on Wednesday, September 12, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at King David Memorial Cemetery, Arlington Virginia. The family welcomes donations to the following charities as an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers:
