A chip sealing project has started on M-51 from Niles to Dowagiac. The Michigan Department of Transportation says the work will mean lane closures starting this week through September 23. The work will involve chip sealing, fog sealing, overbrand crack sealing, and pavement markings. Drivers should expect single lane closures while the project continues. It’s expected to improve the quality of the road and extend its life. MDOT says the M-51 project is part of a $1.8 million bundle to do chip sealing on two roads. The other is M-89 from M-343 in Richland to West Michigan Avenue near Battle Creek.
