Janet Virginia Mabrey, 76, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2022, at her home in Stevensville, Michigan.

Janet was born July 15, 1945 in St. Joseph, Michigan to Howard “Hutch” and Virginia (Dobbs) Hutchinson. She graduated from St. Joseph High School and went on to attend Lake Michigan College.

Janet married Franklin Leon Mabrey on May 3, 1969. They were married for 53 years and enjoyed weekly dinners at their favorite restaurant.  Janet and Frank considered themselves fortunate to be surrounded by many lifelong friends.

After college she began working at Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator where she made many treasured friendships. She moved on to accounting at Miller’s Market then to United Federal Credit Union where she spent 25 years as a manager and collected even more cherished friends, and she eventually retired from Edgewater Bank. She was the lifelong companion that everyone reached out to when they wanted to recall details about a memory or reminisce about a past adventure. Her relationships dated back to kindergarten and lasted all her years.

She was a devoted mother who made sure she spoke with each of her children at least twice a day and was always quick to offer advice (whether they wanted it or not). She enjoyed many hobbies including hunting for antiques, gardening, traveling, laughing with friends, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren and family. Janet always looked forward to her 4:30 afternoon phone calls with her favorite niece Annie.  She adored her spunky labradoodle Coco and their daily walks. This amazing and beloved woman will be greatly missed.

Janet is survived by her husband, Frank Mabrey; children, Melinda and husband John C Magee of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Scott Mabrey of Benton Harbor, Michigan, and Ben and wife Sheila Mabrey of Fort Meyers, Florida; grandchildren, Poppy and Mabrey Magee, Jessica and husband Brett Rawlings, Lindsey Mabrey and fiancé Thomas McDaniel; nieces, Anne Ryan of Columbus, GA and her children, Hanna Ryan, Cole Radenbaugh and fiancé Lindsey Wilson, and Beth Ann Jarowyi of Charleston, SC and her daughter, Jaiden Jarowyi.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Hutch and Virginia Hutchinson, and her brother, Howard Miller “Hutch” Hutchinson.

A memorial service will be held later this year.
