Ruth Ann (Phillips) Watson

Ruth Ann Watson, 78 of Benton Harbor departed this life on March 3, 2022.

Ruth was born June 6, 1943, in Dewitt, Ark to Joseph and Idella Phillips. She graduated from Immanuel High School, Almyra, Ark.  University of Arkansas Pine Bluff and earned a master’s degree at Western Michigan University. She was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority and worked as an educator in the Benton Harbor Area School system as a teacher, athletic director, and principal. People were drawn to Ruth and her outgoing personality. She was a mentor to her students and helped in any way she could.  Ruth was a long-time member of the Union Memorial A.M.E. and served in many ministries of the church.

Ruth leaves to cherish her memories of her sisters, Irma (Joseph) Malone of Benton Harbor and Betty Chambers of Dewitt, Ark; brother, Jimmie Phillips of Dewitt, Ark; a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by, her parents, Joseph, and Idella Phillips; sisters, Merlene Gilbert and Bobra Valentine; brothers, Velvester Taylor and George Phillips; nephew, Michael Phillips

Arrangements have been entrusted to Robbins Brothers Funeral Home, Benton Harbor.
