Michigan Works is looking for staff to help replace lead water lines in Benton Harbor. Director of Business Solutions Mark O’Reilly tells WSJM News they’re going to need laborers, landscapers, and administrative staff. The labor positions will start at $20 per hour.

“The general laborer and construction positions are going to be individuals who will be shoveling and digging holes, restoring yards, hand mixing concrete, shoveling concrete, monitoring the traffic vehicles, placing signs in yards,” O’Reilly said.

The landscapers will restore yards that have been torn up and the administrative staff will do canvassing in neighborhoods.

“One of the things that I really want to highlight is this is an awesome opportunity for anybody who lives in the Benton Harbor city area or the Benton Township area. We specifically want to talk to that community because this is happening in that community and these are jobs for that community.”

The workers will be employed by five contractors doing the line replacements. The work will start in March and the projects will continue through April of next year. O’Reilly says you can apply for the jobs at the website of Michigan Works or by visiting the office.
