The Krasl Art Center in St. Joseph is hoping the public will help it reach its fundraising goal to match some grants it has received. The Krasl’s Matthew Bizoe tells WSJM News the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs has approved grants totaling $26,000 for the museum, the Arts Midwest GIG Fund has awarded it $2,500, and the Frederick S. Upton Foundation has awarded Krasl a Challenge Grant totaling $30,000.

“Every year we get these grants, and they’re part of our fundraising every year,” Bizoe said. “This year we’ve got some extra challenges out there that we’re going to have to bring even more dynamic art programs to our community.”

The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs grant is for daily operations. Then there’s the Upton Challenge Grant.

“It goes toward our education programming. So, this can be scholarships, this can be offering more materials, and offering different ways to improve and engage the community with our educational opportunities at Krasl Art Center.”

The Arts Midwest GIG Fund grant is for the 2022 Biennial Sculpture Invitational this summer. Bizoe says the Krasl needs to raise $40,000 to meet its matches. You can donate online.
