Arthur Reed

Arthur(Art) Reed Sr, was. born on April 21, 1942, in Benton Harbor to L.C. and Lula Reed. He was the eldest son of 14 children. Art passed from this life into eternal life on August 27, 2021, after a brief stay at Hanson House Hospice Center.

He was educated in the Benton Harbor public school System and graduated in 1960. After graduation, he worked as a machinist for Clark Equipment Company. He also worked at Reed Auto Wreckers before getting his own shop. Art was known for his skill as a master auto mechanic.  He could fix any make or model of automobile.  He was called upon to make repairs by many in the community.  He spent countless hours in his repair shop working on vehicles, sometimes into the middle of the night to complete a job. He was a hard-working man and a dependable caring volunteer as well.  Whether he was delivering meals door to door through Meals on Wheels or “Cabbing” folks around town to run errands; Art could be called upon in the time of need.

He loved motorcycles, CB radio communications, (known as the Brown Bomber) fishing, gardening, bird watching, western movies, traveling, and socializing with his friends at the local  McDonald’s restaurant. He was also an avid BHHS TIGER FAN! Despite his sometimes rough exterior, he was very comical and fun but he “didn’t take no stuff”from anybody.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Reed, parents L.C. and Lula Reed, son, Corey.  Five sisters, Johnnie Mae, Joanne, Linda, Wavia, Sharon. and two brothers Wade and Sam.

He leaves to mourn and cherishes his memory several children Deanna Powell, Steven Kilgore, Angelette Robinson, and Arthur Reed Jr of Syracuse, NY. Daphana Mayers of Irmo SC, Dillon(Angelete)Barnes, Benton Harbor MI Rodney Sessoms, Nicole (Isaiah)Hunt of South Bend, IN, Rosemary Cooper, Michelle(Raymond)Black, Lisa Arinwine of El Segundo, CA, Tim King of Kalamazoo, MI A God-daughter, Louella J. Self. Two sisters Erma Reed Syracuse NY, and Audra(Charles)Carson, Lansing, MI. Four brothers Jon(Queen)Reed, Lansing, MI, Philemon (Willie Mae)Reed, Benton Harbor, MI, Kenneth (Saundra)Reed Syracuse NY, and Amos(Robin)Reed Avondale, AZ.24 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Special friends April White and Alberta A. Self.
