Van Buren County Deputies Kill Assault Suspect After He Stabs K9

Van Buren County Sheriff’s deputies have shot and killed a domestic assault suspect who stabbed one of their K9 officers. Sheriff Dan Abbott says they had been sent to the home in Gobles before for aggravated assault and adds the 31-year-old man had several warrants for his arrest. They got a search warrant to search the crawl space.

“Our K9 handler was able to see him hiding in there and could see his hand. He kept giving verbal commands to come out or he’d send in the K9. The K9 was sent in. The K9 was stabbed three different times and the handler was able to get his dog back out,” says Abbott.

It was after that deputies killed the man after not being able to get him to surrender. He was tased but still came after the officers, who then shot him. The man’s name has not yet been released. The incident happened early this morning.
