Benton Township police are investigating the shooting death of 27-year-old Demarco Scales of Benton Harbor. He was shot at a large party just after 3 a.m. Sunday and died at Spectrum Health Lakeland. Police were called to Benton Homes Apartments in the 17-hundred block of Council Drive for the party and were told about shots being fired as they were on the way. Scales was taken to the hospital by private vehicle and the person who took him left the hospital before police arrived. Officers say they did not have any cooperation from witnesses when they asked what had happened. No suspect has been identified yet.
