A state representative has introduced a bill that would force schools and colleges to offer in person graduations. Representative Ann Bollin’s bill would prevent health departments from restricting graduation ceremonies in any way due to the pandemic. Bollin says it’s an important milestone in the life of students and even their parents and grandparents.
“The guidelines that came out last week from MDHHS about ceremonies, they would allow up to 1,000 guests,” says Bollin. “I have school districts with 500 graduating students. That wouldn’t even allow all graduates to have two parents there.”
Outbreaks are being reported in dozens of schools this week, but Bollin believes it is due to more testing. The bill goes before the House Education Committee.
