County Commissioner Previews Broadband Survey

A survey to learn detailed information regarding the availability of broadband internet around Berrien County will officially launch next week, but you can take it now. During Thursday’s Berrien County Board of Commissioners meeting, Commissioner Teri Freehling said the broadband survey will start out by asking you if you have a fixed internet connection at your home.

“Fixed internet is defined as you receive your internet service stationary,” Freehling said. “It doesn’t necessarily matter if it’s a satellite service or anything like that. Non-fixed means that you can take it with you. If you get your service from your cell phone, that would be non-fixed.”

Freehling said if you answer in the affirmative for the fixed internet question, the survey will end with a speed test. Therefore, try to take the survey from home. The county is working with Merit Network out of Ann Arbor on the broadband survey. The county needs detailed information on broadband availability to pursue certain grants to expand high-speed internet. You should be getting a postcard in the mail telling you about it. You can find the survey at Merit.edu/Berrien.
