
Adela (Adel) Cadra Schultz of the Village of Shoreham passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021 at Caretel in Royalton Township. She was 95.
Services celebrating her life will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, Jan 14, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 PM at the Church. Cremation has taken place and burial of the ashes will be in Ruggles Cemetery in Baroda Township at a later date. Memorials may be sent to Sarett Nature Center, the Nature Conservancy, or Trinity Lutheran Church of St. Joseph. Arrangements are by the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Township. Adel was born near Shamrock, Texas on June 3, 1925; the daughter of John and Eva Cadra, who were immigrants from the present day Slovak Republic. She got her basic education at Pakan Grade School and McLean and Shamrock High Schools.
Adel received her R.N. diploma from Scott and White Hospital School of Nursing in Temple, TX in 1946 and graduated from Barnes School of Anesthesia in St. Louis, MO, in 1949.
From 1946 to 1953 she worked as a Nurse Anesthetist at Oak Park Illinois Hospital and in 1953 she began working as head anesthetist at Memorial Hospital in St. Joseph.. She later worked in anesthesia “on call” in the delivery room until 1987.
Adel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph and a Bible student for many years.
Adel was an avid bird watcher. She traveled extensively in search of those wonderful birds-to the Pribiloff Islands of Alaska, Nova Scotia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Trinidad, and throughout the United States. She was a member of Sarett Nature Center, Berrien Birding Club, Michigan Audubon Society, American Birding Association, and the Nature Conservancy.
In years past she was a Cub Scout den mother and later a Neighborhood Watch captain. She enjoyed swimming and swam regularly at the WCA. In recent years, she especially enjoyed going to the Senior Center and her friends known as the “Beach Bums”.
She is survived by her daughter Kimberly Schultz of St. Joseph, son Konrad Schultz of Barolda, grandson Erich Schultz of Port Orange, FL, nephews Ronald Cadra, Mark Cadra, Mike Barbian, Nieces Kimberly Adel Cadra Nixon and Pam Weatherly. She was preceded in death by five brothers.
