John’s guest this week is Rabbi Mikhailo Kapustin, Rabbi for the Jewish Federation of Slovakia. In this first program with him, he talks of his origins. The son of a Soviet Naval Officer, born in the Ural Mountains, his family fled a Civil War in one of the republics of the now dissolved Soviet Union, he studied to be a rabbi in London, Moscow and Israel. He later became Rabbi of the Liberal synagogues in the Crimea. He talks over his life, before and after the Russian invasion and annexation of the Crimea in 2014, and his flight to Slovakia.
