
Robert “Bob” Lee Samuelson, 93, of St. Joseph, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville.
Bob was born May 8, 1927 in Barrington, IL to the late Julius and Elsie Samuelson. Raised in Chicago until 1942, when the family moved to St. Joseph. He was a 1945 graduate of St. Joseph High School. Bob started working at The News Palladium in 1948 until 1950 when he was drafted into the Army. In April 1951, he went to Korea where he was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Korean Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. Upon discharge in June 1952, he returned to work at the newspaper, retiring in 1989.
Bob Married Beverly White on February 22, 1958. He enjoyed camping, canoeing with family and friends at Sand Lake, hunting and fishing. He was a member of Korean War Veterans of Southwest Michigan, Papsan-Mamasan Korean War Veterans, and American Legion.
He is survived by his daughter, Mari (George) Williams; step-son, Tim Beck; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly; son, Joel; parents, Julius and Elsie; sister, Bette (Norman) Rothenberg; and sister, Shirley Timm.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held by the family at a later date. Together as they always were Bob and Bev will be laid to rest at North Shore Memory Gardens.
