South Haven Rotary to hold fundraiser for those in need

During these special times there are growing needs for help by many families in the South Haven area.

Members of the Rotary Club of South Haven in recent months have helped answer those needs with financial contributions to We Care I.N.C. that now total $17,750.

The contributions have been made possible through donations from individual Rotarians, the club through its local fundraising initiatives, the Rotary District 6360 Foundation and Rotary International Foundation.

The most recent contribution of $3,750 has been designated for the We Care personal care pantry. Club president Dan Thompson and treasurer Bop Straits are pictured presenting the donation to Erika Morrison, executive director of We Care.

During the current COVID crisis, the member’s contributions were designated for the We Care utility assistance program. The donations taken during the club’s annual holiday dinner are earmarked for We Care food. The Rotarians were the leading organization in donating laundry detergent during the Diversity Coalition’s MLK event.

During the Rotary year ending June 30, the club’s donations to more than 40 local, regional and international non-profit organizations surpassed $51,000.

While in-person fund raising projects have disappeared during the current crisis, the need in the community hasn’t. South Haven Rotarians will hold a unique fundraiser on Sunday, Aug. 9 when they sponsor a virtual pancake breakfast that will be streamed live from 1-2:30 p.m. via the club’s Facebook page. The club’s goal will be to raise $9,000 in 90 minutes. Persons who while visiting the streaming site at the city’s Huron Street Pavilion and make a donation will receive packaged pancake mix and fresh blueberries.
