Whirlpool Making Staff Cuts In U.S.

Whirlpool has announced layoffs as it works to weather the recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The company said on Monday it’s previously offered employees a voluntary retirement program, and also reduced budgets, implemented furloughs, restricted travel, and took other steps to reduce costs. Now, a spokesperson says, it “is now also necessary to take additional action and reduce the number of people we employ in the U.S. All impacted employees are being offered a strong severance package to support them in their transition. Though these decisions are difficult, we believe they are necessary to adapt to the reality of an economic contraction and prepare us for new ways of working in the future.” Whirlpool is not releasing a number for the layoffs.
