Michigan gets $30 billion in federal funding every year based on the census count, and that’s why state and local officials are making a full-court press to urge people to fill out the form this spring. Governor Gretchen Whitmer helped to unveil bus wraps on CATA buses in Lansing today that say “Be Counted.”

“It’s absolutely critical that especially in this environment that we lock arms and do the outreach so that families, so that individuals, so that in our workplaces, we are all amplifying how critical it is to fill out the census,” said Whitmer.

The census only asks nine questions, and the answers are kept private and secure for 72 years. Those questions include your name, age, race, gender, and the number of people in your house.
