Congressman Fred Upton has introduced a resolution in the U.S. House expressing support for designating February 1, 2020 as Blue Star Mother’s Day. He tells WSJM News it’s in commemoration of the anniversary of the first meeting of the Blue Star Mothers, which took place in Flint.

“February 1 is the 78th anniversary of the Blue Star Mothers, Blue Star Families, and often we think about our veterans on Veterans Day, Memorial Day, etc. But we sometimes don’t really remember the sacrifices that their families had.”

There are currently 198 active chapters of the Blue Star Mothers of America representing thousands of military families throughout the United States. Upton is hoping his House resolution could pass before February 1. The Senate passed a similar resolution in November.
