Debra J. “Debi” Shindeldecker, 64, of Benton Harbor, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11 AM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Pastor Thomas Bird officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 5 PM until 8 PM at the funeral home. Debi was born on December 25, 1954 in Benton Harbor, to James & Kathrine (Imler) Clayton. She graduated from Michigan Lutheran High School in 1973. On March 19, 1977, Debi married the love of her life, Douglas “Doug” Shindeldecker, at Grace Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. She worked as a data processor for various banks and corporate firms before she found her true calling being a home maker and raising her four children. Debi’s passion in life was being an artist. She took great pride in her art, her favorite being ceramics and beading jewelry. She also enjoyed tending to her garden and listening to music. Debi loved spending time with her family. Whether it was fishing for walleye with Doug or spending time with her grandchildren, family was most important to her.
Debi is survived by her mother, Kathrine; loving husband of nearly 42 years, Doug; children, Jason Shindeldecker of Baroda; Amy (Stephen) Peters of Benton Harbor, Jamie (Kristen) Shindeldecker of Decatur, and Nicole (Mark) Conrad of Baroda; grandchildren, Matthew, Seth, Ethan, Michael, Tyler, Kayleigh, Gabriel, and Gavin; great-grandchild, Zayden; special niece, Carly Stanage; brothers, Gary Clayton and Jimmy Clayton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Debi was preceded in death by her father, James.
