Residents of Chikaming Township are praising plans for a linear park in the area.
On Wednesday, an open house was held at Chikaming Township Center to get public opinion on a proposed linear park that would go from southern Bridgman to Galien River County Park.
The idea for a linear park came from meetings between the Berrien County Road department, which is looking to repave a section of Red Arrow Highway in that area, and the Parks department. So far, the Parks department is liking what they’re hearing from residents.
“The input, so far, at this meeting has been very positive,” said Berrien County Parks Director Brian Bailey. “A lot of comments up on our boards are very positive and supportive of the idea.”
Bailey says the county is hoping to apply for grants by spring of next year to start funding the project, with a goal to start creating the linear park by 2020.
