Benton Harbor City Hall could soon get some work. At a Monday meeting, commissioners tabled a resolution to allow just under $160,000 of facade work, saying they need additional information. City Manager Darwin Watson says city hall badly needs improvements.

“This building was built in 1927,” Watson told WSJM. “There has been little to no renovations to this building. Paint, some remodeling, but for the most part, the facade work and exterior work has not been done.”

The project would include masonry work, fixed front doors, repairs to the handicapped ramp, roof work, and a drop-off box for after-hours payments. The matter will be reviewed by the planning and economic development committee before it’s brought back up. Watson says the city budget for the year includes money for the project.
