Crews with Wolverine Pipeline Company worked all throughout the night Friday and Saturday to clean up and repair a diesel fuel spill that occurred Friday in Van Buren County. It happened on farm property at County Road 380 and 62nd Street in Geneva Township when a farmer struck a pipeline with an excavator. About 8,400 gallons of fuel were spilled into the field, and Wolverine says crews of 35 workers per shift spent the entire night at the scene. As of Saturday afternoon, the damaged pipe had been uncovered, three vacuum trucks and several storage tanks had been brought in, and about 5,400 gallons of diesel fuel and 3,000 gallons of water containing fuel had been recovered. Wolverine says there is not yet an estimate regarding how long the overall cleanup and restoration will take. It says the spill has not resulted in any injuries.
