AAA Michigan says gas prices statewide have risen by about 13¢ a gallon in the past week. The Dearborn-based auto club says Sunday the average price for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline was about $2.39 per gallon. That’s about 35¢ less than it was at the same point last year.
The lowest average price was about $2.36 per gallon in the Saginaw, Bay City and Midland areas, while the highest average was about $2.43 per gallon in the Traverse City area. Locally, our prices are at $2.38 on average in St. Joseph and Benton Harbor, up nearly 13¢. AAA says prices are rising in part due to more expensive crude oil costs brought about by wildfires in Canada and supply disruptions in other oil-producing countries. AAA Michigan surveys daily fuel prices at 2,800 gas stations across the state.
