MDOT Offering Text Alerts About Road Problems

The Michigan Department of Transportation is offering a new way for drivers to be kept in the loop about issues on the road. Spokesperson Nick Schirripa says you can now sign up for text message alerts about crashes on state-maintained roadways. Just go to Michigan.gov/MDOT. Look on the left side of the page near the bottom for a red envelope icon, and click it. From there, you can enter your phone number, verify, and then select the counties you want.

“Once you’re entered in and you get everything set up, you’ll get text messages related to any incidents or crashes on the trunk lines in the counties you select,” Schirripa told WSJM.

MDOT will send out text alerts about issues on M, I, and US roads whenever police notify the agency about them. Schirripa notes you can also stay up to date on construction with MDOT’s MIDrive app, which is available for free on both iPhone and Android.
