Testimony has been taken this week in the trial of a man accused in a series of rapes in Benton Harbor last summer. 42-year-old Marcus Stewart, of Benton Harbor, faces three counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct, as well as two counts of assault by strangulation, and one count of home invasion. It’s alleged he raped three women on separate occasions over a roughly three week time period. Stewart was arrested in September. In court on Wednesday, testimony was taken from a woman who said she was assaulted when the suspect broke into a home where she’d been staying. In other cases, Stewart is accused of stalking women on the streets. The Berrien County Prosecutor’s office says he could get up to life in prison if convicted.
