Coming up this Saturday will be Train Day in Bangor. It’s the 7th year for the event at the train depot on Railroad Street. Liz Greene, the manager of the Railroad Cafe, says it’s just a celebration of trains all over the country.

“We pick the first weekend in May because it is the closes to the state of the pounding of the Golden Spike,” Greene told WSJM.

Green says everything will kick off Saturday at 7:38 a.m., when the Amtrak train rolls in. Then, they’ll have a day packed with activities.

“We’ll have games, giveaways, and at 10 a.m. we’ll have live music by Christopher Blue,” Greene said.

Everything will wrap up at noon. Greene says the local historical society gets in on the action by putting up train displays all over town. She says Train Day is all about recognizing the historical importance of the train to the development of the United States.
