Grade school students in Michigan would get their vision screened more often under legislation before a House committee today. State Representative Amanda Price is sponsoring two bills in the three bill package and says the goal is to head off a reading problem at the pass.
“Possibly, the difficulties they’re having are with their eyesight, and not to a developmental disability,” Price said.
The legislation would also require a student to get an eye exam if a teacher notices they may be having a vision problem. Under the proposal, Medicaid would cover the cost of the eye exams for low income students.
