The couple who were found dead in a car located upside down in a creek in Niles on Sunday drowned. Autopsies were performed today on Steven Rough and Autumn Mehl at Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids. Toxicology results are pending, and typically take several weeks. The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the case. Police have not said which of the two was behind the wheel. Rough and Mehl were reported missing on Saturday morning through social media by friends and family members, and searchers found the car Sunday morning. They had last been seen late Friday night at Jay’s Lounge in Niles.
