There will be no merger between St. Joseph-based United Federal Credit Union and Lake Michigan Credit Union out of Grand Rapids. The combination of the two would have been the largest merger in credit union history, but United Federal’s President and CEO Gary Easterling tells WSJM’s Pat Moody it was apparent they were trying to align “two very different organizations, two very different cultures, and the task became just too difficult to achieve at this time.” The financial institutions revealed they were in talks to merge in mid-October.
