New Saint Joseph Brewery Seeks Permission To Make Whiskey, Wine

A new brewery opening in downtown Saint Joseph next year hopes to produce more than just beer. At Monday’s regular meeting, city commissioners approved Silver Harbor Brewing’s request to seek a small wine maker and small distiller license from the state. Silver Harbor Co-owner Michael Gross says they’ll start out small.

“Vodka, gin, bourbon, whiskey, those types of items,” Gross told WSJM. “Then, wine. We’ll keep it basic with table red and table white to start, and that will likely be in alliance with another local wine producer.”

Gross couldn’t tell us which local wine producer they’ll enlist. With the license it’s seeking, Silver Harbor would be able to produce about a thousand barrels of each per year. Gross says they should be brewing beer by the end of this year, and hope to be open at 721 Pleasant Street in March. The brewery will also be a full service restaurant.
