School Hires Attendance Officials

Benton Harbor Area Schools is getting serious about maintaining student attendance levels. At this week’s meeting, the board of education approved the hiring of some attendance ombudsmen to make sure students make it to class each day. Interim Superintendent Patricia Robinson read the resolution.

“There is an urgent need for a link between the student, home, and school,” Robinson said. “Central Administration has identified funding to support six parent-student-school ombudsmen positions. Candidates for these roles will be the liaisons between the student, school, and home, and will serve as the attendance officer in their building.”

Robinson said each building will have someone in that role. The board unanimously approved the proposal on Tuesday.
