Paw Paw Suspect Previously Questioned By FBI

The 15-year-old Paw Paw High School student facing charges for threatening a school shooting had been questioned by area police and the FBI last month. His parents say school officials also evaluated him, but did not believe him to be a threat. The teen’s stepdad says his son, however, had been relentlessly bullied and that only increased after he was caught drawing a bomb.

“This ended up causing more bullying, with people calling him the ‘bomb boy,'” his stepfather says. He adds his son had been punched, stuffed into lockers, and knocked down at school in recent months as part of what he calls “relentless” bullying by other students.

The questioning a month ago was prompted by a notebook that allegedly included his plan for the attack and a hit list. That same notebook has been cited by the Van Buren County prosecutor’s office as the reason they think he should be tried as an adult. His mother says the boy told her he wanted to commit suicide, but do it in a way that wouldn’t make her feel bad. He thought killing other students might do that, but she does not believe he would have followed through. Both his mom and stepdad are hoping he can get the help he needs.
