Cleanup Forces Monday Closure Of US-31

No one was seriously injured, but there was a bit of a mess to clean up on northbound US-31 Monday in Sodus Township following a crash. The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department tells us the crash happened near Sodus Parkway around 3 p.m. when a semi left its lane, hit a car parked on the side of the road, and then hit a pick-up. The semi was hauling steel I-beams and was driven by an Indiana man. The crash caused the semi to lose the I-beams all over the road, forcing the shutdown of US-31 northbound for a few hours. Police say the driver of the semi may have suffered a medical problem, causing the crash. He was taken to Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph. The driver of the pick-up was not hurt.
