The Michigan Talent Investment Agency is shipping out $1.8 million to Michigan Works agencies, non-profits, and colleges to help get more students into apprenticeship programs. Talent Investment Agency Industry Engagement Administrator Marcia Black-Watson tells WSJM News the goal is to help more workers become qualified for skilled trades jobs.

“Those are occupations which require post-secondary education and training, but probably not quite a bachelor’s degree, and one of the main training opportunities for those professional trade occupations is registered apprenticeship.”

Lake Michigan College is getting $180,000 to bolster manufacturing and construction programs. Black-Watson tells us LMC is a good partner for the effort because it’s tuned in to the needs of businesses in the region.
