The Consumers Energy Foundation has announced a $200,000 donation to Habitat for Humanity of Michigan. Spokesperson Brian Wheeler tells WSJM News the money is going to Habitat’s Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative.

“The money is going to help Habitat with its mission, not just building homes, but to do a lot of rehabilitation of existing homes throughout the state,” Wheeler said. “We’ve worked with Habitat for many years, and we’ve had an effort to support them with building homes and to make sure that existing homes and energy-efficient and cost-effective.”

Wheeler tells us Consumers Energy employees are also encouraged to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, and they often do. This year, 350 Consumers employees worked on Habitat projects. In all, Consumers Energy and its charitable foundation have contributed more than $1 million to Habitat for Humanity of Michigan since 2001.
