State Representative Beth Griffin is praising legislation that would create a curriculum for Michigan schools to teach kids about opioids. The Mattawan Republican tells us it’s important to make sure kids know about the dangers of prescription abuse.

“We want to equip our teachers with the right tools that they need to effectively address concerns about opioid abuse if it comes up,” Griffin said. “It could come up in a health education class, but it could also come up in a current events class.”

The bill currently in the Michigan Senate would require a grade-appropriate curriculum for opioid education. The plan has already passed the state House, and Griffin is hoping for quick Senate passage.
