We’re once again paying more to fill up the gas tank to start a week. According to Triple-A Michigan, the statewide average has risen 12¢ a gallon to $2.42. The average locally in Benton Harbor and St. Joseph is up 10¢ to $2.40. The state’s highest prices are in the Grand Rapids-Muskegon-Holland area at $2.51, while Detroit drivers have the state’s lowest prices at $2.36. What we’re paying statewide is up 51¢ from early March last year. Triple-A expects prices to continue rising this month as refineries continue switching over to cleaner-burning and more expensive summer blend gasoline and demand goes up.
